Speaking Dutch correctly is only possible if you have a decent understanding of its grammar. This is why our courses are subdivided into a grammar part and a conversation part, with one specialized teacher for each. The grammar teacher helps you build a solid base, while the conversation teacher encourages you to speak from day one.

Dutch Courses Amsterdam offers Dutch classes at all levels, from introductory (A0) to advanced (B2, state exam program). We use our own study materials that were specially developed with a focus on daily conversation and correct word order. They are easily understandable, fun, and interesting to learn from. For the B2/C1 conversation level, we use external books.

That’s the question I explore, alone and with guest experts, in my podcast The Human Voice Explained.

I was asked to co-design a voice type that would best update Booking.com’s brand identity for their new global campaign, and translate it to Idris Elba’s vocal and creative skills.

In their own studio and in mine, I helped Harm get his vocal sound design right by approaching it as the synthesizers he knows well: By adding and reducing sound characteristics, we found the voice that fit their new album best.

ING scheduled an international, company wide broadcast of its gathered national COOs, and asked me to design and execute a brief but effective workshop to prepare them for the job.

As a teenager, I was hearing all those different voices out there, and my reasoning was simple:

They are human, I am too, so if they can do it, I can do it.

Now, since most vocal professionals were working inside aesthetic use cases (a good voice is an opera voice, so we’re training to get there, or, a good voice is a powerful acting voice for on stage, so we’re preparing for that), it was clear to me that I needed to do two things.

I needed to develop a framework to define a good voice, independent of traditional use cases and approaches. Also, I needed to learn how to make any vocal sound.

So I set out studying the histories and philosophies of art, beside music theory and digital media. Also, I studied brand new, sciece based vocal methods like EVTS and UVS.

This combined expertise allows me to help individuals define what a good voice is for them, in the context of their use case — while also allowing me to show them how it would sound, and show them the most effective way to get there themselves.

Today, this means that an effective, authentic and inspiring voice is available to everyone I work with:

Vocal professionals perfecting their next speech, music record or audio book. Companies defining the perfect voice to represent their identity. Sales teams and corporate seniors looking for a voice that actually makes people listen — while making themselves feel great. Vocal amateurs trying to simply enjoy what they love to do, without getting stuck in the process. And many, many more.

It’s been two decades since I started learning about the voice, and I’ve heard many voices since I started vocal studio The Vocal Coach in 2013. And, especially because I’ve seen so much proof, I remain convinced that anyone can learn to define and create the voice they’re looking for.

Because of some practical reasons, this website is in English. However, I am also fluent in German and Dutch, so I also work in those languages.
