Ashoka has more than 35 years of experience in the field of social entrepreneurship – finding, selecting, and supporting the world’s leading social innovators (Ashoka Fellows). The Ashoka global network includes 3,500+ fellows based in more than 90 countries. These Changemakers offer system-changing solutions to social, cultural and environmental challenges on a global scale.


Ashoka Netherlands was launched in 2014, and forms part of the Ashoka Europe consortium. Since its launch, Ashoka Netherlands has elected 11 fellows who are bringing innovative system-changing solutions regionally, nationally and internationally.

Ashoka envisions a world where everyone is a changemaker – a world that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges, where each individual has the freedom, confidence and societal support to drive system change.


To develop and sustain ideas for social change, we offer critical intervention on three levels:

Supporting social entrepreneurs – social entrepreneurs are the engines of social change. Ashoka identifies and invests in leading social innovators and helps them to achieve maximum social impact.

Promoting group entrepreneurship – networks of social entrepreneurs working together accelerate and spread social impact. Ashoka engages communities of entrepreneurs and supports collaborations that impact entire fields.

Building infrastructure for the sector – a global network of changemakers requires tools and support systems to deliver sustainable solutions. Ashoka creates the needed infrastructure, such as access to social financing as well as bridges to business and academic sectors.

Ashoka is dedicated to creating the world’s largest and most powerful network of Changemakers by searching for and selecting leading social entrepreneurs across the world: our Ashoka Fellows. These Fellows have demonstrated a commitment to social change and system transformation, and they offer innovative solutions to current problems. At Ashoka, we provide these entrepreneurs with a global network, expertise and new possibilities for upscaling their innovations.

Ashoka pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship almost 40 years ago, and today it continues to build the largest global network of leading social entrepreneurs. Since 2014, when Ashoka was launched in the Netherlands, we have elected and supported a number of Dutch Ashoka Fellows who are bringing system change in the Netherlands and beyond.

The selection of Ashoka Fellows occurs through a rigorous and human-centred process: the Venture Program. Across the globe, we use the following selection criteria and process to elect Ashoka Fellows:

In the Netherlands, we have a strong community of ASN members who provide their guidance and expertise to Ashoka Fellows and Changemaker Schools, supporting them to amplify their social impact. They do so in several key ways:

Speaking Dutch correctly is only possible if you have a decent understanding of its grammar. This is why our courses are subdivided into a grammar part and a conversation part, with one specialized teacher for each. The grammar teacher helps you build a solid base, while the conversation teacher encourages you to speak from day one.

Dutch Courses Amsterdam offers Dutch classes at all levels, from introductory (A0) to advanced (B2, state exam program). We use our own study materials that were specially developed with a focus on daily conversation and correct word order. They are easily understandable, fun, and interesting to learn from. For the B2/C1 conversation level, we use external books.

Leave the hassle of your daily live behind. Join us in an inspiring and fun learning environment, that expands beyond the classroom! Join a group in which everyone is committed to learn Dutch fast!

Every year about 300-350 people from all over the world participate in the Dutch Summer School. Have a look at the pictures and testimonials.

The minimum age is 18 years. About 30% is below 25, 40% between 25-40, and 30% is above 40 years old.


Participants come from all over the over the world, no specific nationalities are overrepresented. Half are expats living in the Netherlands. The other half travels from abroad to do this course.


Relocation, work, study, civic integration exam, Dutch roots and/or relatives, hobby. On the higher levels: mainly to improve the positions at the labour market.

Command of the English language is obligatory on the levels 0, A1 and A2 (instruction language). On the higher levels, the teacher speaks only Dutch. The course is fast-paced aimed at higher educated learners.


We have a (small) Dutch Summer School in Amsterdam. It’s just the intensive Dutch course. No accommodation, and no social interaction outside the lessons. If you’re not looking for the group experience or you just prefer to sleep in your own bed, then this might be the right choice.

Especially for the people who would like to have an efficient use of their holidays: we offer the same programme as a 9-day course (weekend+week+weekend) in January / March / April / May / October / November. You’ll have the full course, you you’ll need to ask only 1 week off of work. Visit dutchwinterschool.nl.

If you have different plans to spend your holidays: we offer the same educational programme online. Two evenings per week. It’s definitely not as fun as an in-person course. And you’ll miss out on all the social interaction outside the lessons! But it’s still surprisingly effective. Learn more about our Virtual Classrooms.

Levels are successive. If you choose more than 1 session: make a separate booking for the next level at a later date.

Example: if you want to do a 4-week course starting from beginner, book level 1 (starting 3 July) + level 2 (starting 17 July).

The prices of offline courses include: coffee/tea/water during lessons, access to online package #dutchgrammar-1, #dutchgrammar 2 and #dutchgrammar-3 (from 1 month before the course until 1 month after the course). Book not included (€ 39).

If you book with the STAP-budget: only educational costs are covered by the STAP-budget, extra costs like accommodation you pay yourself.
