Jennifer McCormack: My boyfriend and I recently completed an introduction to ceramics workshop here with Ruta and it was really enjoyable. It far exceeded our expectations, my boyfriend even enjoyed it, saying he would like to do it again. The workshop was over two Saturdays, two hours each time, this was ideal for my short attention span. It is a very practical class and we covered so much. We immediately began experimenting with the clay and trying different techniques. We moulded the clay by hand, used various tools, painted our creations, marbled the clay, used the pottery wheel and much more. We ended up with multiple "dishes/cups/bowls" (some, actually presentable!) as a result of trying out the different methods. It was really fun and Ruta was very welcoming, full of great advice and help but she gives you plenty of freedom to get creative. Highly recommended.
Michael Keyzer: What a great workshop! Great teacher, makes you feel at ease the moment you step in and is a perfect guidance during the session.Super highly recommended!
SANDRA G: Excellent introduction and session with Ruta. Nice to be able to create something straight away. Highly recommended
Axelle Ahanhanzo: Lovely time at the Atelier. Lots of space, corona safe and great instructor.

Neelam Kumar: Lovely studio where you can work by yourself. A lot of space in the upstairs department and a pleasant atmosphere overall. Definitely slightly overpriced. Would have also loved some more inspiring engagement and community feeling.
Ruby Delaney: I worked as a volunteer mentor here before covid and have always wanted to share my thoughts about pansa. I think it is important to note that as a mentor I was a young artist being exploited for free labour in the name of having access to highly inaccessible facilities. The memberships are grossly overpriced so as a student this was my only option. I quickly learned that the management is poor, chaotic and unprofessional. I was expected to work and like a dog with no pay, and I still had to pay for all my materials so as a worker at the studio I was technically paying them!!! As a result of the expenses, the people who hang around the studio are not a proper reflection of what Ceramics is all about. I would have loved to find a real community here but it seemed everyone at pansa was only interested in themselves. This place lacks authentic connect and creativity, sadly it is but a thinly veiled example of capitalism and classicism.
zooey glass: I took an intensive wheel throwing course. the teacher was not that experienced in teaching and attending to student needs. after one full week I still was not sure about some of the central aspects of the process and I know I am not the only one because many attendees were lost during the course. she did not provide additional perspectives that might help unless you insisted. The teacher also said that she would send some videos that might help in understanding the process but those links never arrived. At the end of the course, I had an extra piece and they limit the pieces to be fired to 6 (and mind you that some attendees have less than six). The teacher did not offer me to fire that piece as well but I respected the rules and fairness at the time and I did not mind coming to the studio to work on other stuff so I decided I would either get a stamp card or membership for 2 months. The teacher commented on how full the studio was and for me to bear this in mind. (You reserve a spot and I never had an issue with reservations so now I am not sure what this remark meant). The first day of my membership I filled in a form that requires them to approve so that I can use my own underglazes (since the studio only provides maybe 8-10 glazes... thanks I guess). They did not tell me if the brand I told them was okay, so I reminded them. It has been three months and I still do not know if those underglazes are approved by them or not. Maybe 3 weeks in my membership- I asked the wheel throwing teacher for my extra piece that she put aside. She had no idea where it was and did not even bother to look around the studio with me. Unprofessional attitude, bad communication, subpar supervision during classes, you need to buy extra glazes and underglazes if you want to decorate your pieces and might not know if it is okay to use them + they have thrown away my piece without my knowledge :)
Response: Hi Zooey (Çağla Çınar) In addition to sending you an email, we would like to reply to put your reviews in perspective. On communication in the studio: Unfortunately sometimes things take time and mouth to mouth communication is a must. As a communal studio we need proactive input from members and students. We feel that if we would have spoken to you personally and sooner we could have avoided a lot of the irritations and situation you have encountered. On the Course: We understand that the communication you had with the teacher did not go as smoothly as you would have liked. We are sad to hear this. Teachers try to communicate as clearly as possible but they do need to know if something is slowing a student down. The only way is to directly ask them, like you mentioned before. We will check why the links to the extra clips did not reach you, we will also check the feedback we received from other participants to see if they had the same issues with teacher student communications during the class. I think communication was a mayor thing in this case. We try to accommodate all our members but we need a certain amount of input from the community as well. On the Membership: I am sorry to hear you are not happy with the facilities we offer in our members side of the studio. We believe the facilities at Studio Pansa are on par with other international studio's and in some areas we really go the extra mile. This resulted in a very loyal and active member base and the studio being one of a kind in Amsterdam. We give our members a lot of agency and possibilities but this needs a lot of communication from both sides verbally as well as via email. We understand that as a new member this can be daunting and therefore we're always ready to answer a quick physical questions and discuss possibilities trough the mentor system we have in place. It is a shame that these miscommunications happened to you and the effect they had on your Studio Pansa experience. Kind regards Best, Team Pansa

Sacheranna: Anybody looking for ceramic lessons in Amsterdam? Gillian’s pottery classes are fantastic. I started from scratch and learnt so much in a really nice environment. Gillian is an amazing host and teacher who gave me the opportunity to learn my first pottery skills. The overall atmosphere is calm, relaxed and fun. I could not recommend more highly :)
Response: Thanks Anna, you made so much progress in such a short time and produced the most amazing ceramic pieces of work.
Beth Irvine: Gill has just moved to a lovely studio on the Lauriergracht which is fully equipped with different types of clay, glazes, mould-making materials, a kiln and spraying area. The people attending a mixture of ages, nationalities and abilities which gives the classes a very relaxed feel and both English and Dutch are spoken. If you are a beginner Gill will take you through various different processes such as coiling, pinching, slabbing, modeling, moulding-making & glazing and she has a good library of books for ideas and tips. If you need lots of help, Gill is there to give it, however if you are more experienced then you are left alone to get on with your latest project. I would highly recommend these classes as a great way to channel your creativity in clay with the opportunity to meet some lovely people at the same time!
Isadora Pompa: Gillian Smith is an excellent teacher. I recommend her studio to learn how to create wonderful ceramics.

Valentine Bouhier: Both Alexandra and Suus have been so lovely and welcoming! The two-day wheel-throwing workshop was a great way to (re)discover clay and the wheel. The fact that there were few participants (we were 2) was also a major bonus. The Atelier is a bright, relaxing place perfect to get inspiration and unleash your creativity. All in all I am thrilled by this experience and hope to become a regular ‘student’ there in the coming months ☺️
Response: Thank you so much! Really looking forward to welcoming you again in the studio 💛
